A quirky birthday

For my birthday this year we did a little overnight trip to a quirky house rental near York, PA: The Haines Shoe House. It is literally a house in the shape of a shoe, well, a boot. Built in 1948 to promote a chain of shoe stores owned by Mahlon Haines, it’s had various uses over the decades. These days it’s for rent on VRBO or Airbnb.

It’s in remarkably good shape, and is cutely outfitted by the current owner in 50s/60s-style furnishings. Given the decidedly non-boxy shape some of the rooms are snug and almost all have an unusual shapes, but of course that’s all part of the charm! Lots of stairs though as you navigate the foot-shaped floorplan.

We had a fun goofy getaway!
